Week 5

31Jul06

The rain continues to fall here in Oxford.  It’s 66˚ and I’ve got the windows open and a rainy day jazz mix playing.  It’s Monday, and of course that means formal dinner.  The drinks reception begins in under an hour and I’ve got tons of work to do.
On this week’s academic schedule:

Monday: Formal dinner + [...]

Here are some notes from my weekend trip to Paris until I get around to writing a full recap.

The return to driving on the right side of the road was nice. I could look left when crossing the street and not worry about getting run over.
Nobody really follows the traffic laws, but somehow I [...]

After an incredibly long return trip from Paris to London to Oxford full of rushed subway exchanges, packed trains, fit-throwing British kids, and restless napping, I’m finally back from my first trip to the continent. Physically and mentally drained. More to come…

Foreboding rain clouds taunted us in the distance, but the rain was nice enough to hold up until our next stop. We accidently went 20 minutes in the wrong direction after Reading and ended up getting off at a stop right [...]

Oh so humid

22Jul06

I was up till 4:00 AM putting the final touches on my paper, so the 9:00 alarm was a rude awakening. At least it’s done. It rained last night, but the clouds have disappeared and it’s disgustingly humid.
Despite the fact that I have a 4-page paper due Wed., about 1500 pages to read [...]

Noted

22Jul06

Printed paper is noticeably different in size here. All of my papers are now longer than my clipboard. According to wikipedia (entry on A4):

“It is the normal size of paper for both domestic and business purposes in all countries except the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Chile and some other American countries.”

86˚F [...]
