Travel failure

22Jul06

We boarded the 12:30 train to Reading, excited for our daytrip adventure to Salisbury.

Foreboding rain clouds taunted us in the distance, but the rain was nice enough to hold up until our next stop. We accidently went 20 minutes in the wrong direction after Reading and ended up getting off at a stop right next to a horse racing track completely lacking any sort of cover from the rain. The rain continued to follow us wherever we went throughout the afternoon.

We eventually made our way back to Oxford, figuring that a trip to Stonehenge in the rain would be miserable. It all came to a grand total of £21 pounds to ride around on the trains through the English countryside for three hours. All in all, a delightful afternoon.

Got back into town around 2:00 and went to Greens for an excellent warm meal of salad, cole slaw, and grilled chicken pesto panini.

Yo La Tengo – The Sounds of the Sounds of Science made for the perfect soundtrack to a dreary, rainy trainride back to Oxford.
